Buying a House During the Holidays

Well, it's December!  The holidays are upon us.  Christmas is only a few weeks away, though my house had our tree up a month and a half ago.  The holiday times can be tough.  With black friday, cyber monday and all the shopping and bills in between, it can be stressful financially.

People think that with all the holiday craziness going on that buying a house right now is impossible.  Others think it can just throw a wrench in an already hectic schedule.  But, it's actually a really good idea if everything falls into place.

The market tends to drop in price around the holiday season.  If money is tight, but you're still looking for a house, this is for you.  This time is perfect for you to negotiate a lower price!  Sellers want to sell quick this time of year.  In addition, you will have less competition with other buyers.  In middle Tennessee, the market is booming right now!  But it's not super hectic.  Around this time you'll be able to comfortably look for homes wihtout feeling the pressure of having to act fast.

One of the biggest reasons why you should be looking around the holidays is you might get a lower interest rate.  Interests rates tend to drop during the holidays.  It's almost the end of the year as well, so if you close before January 1st, you might get a tax break.  And everyone loves a tax break!

At the end of the day, if the time is right, the time is right!  Sometimes, whether it be financially or something else, buying a home around the holidays may not work out.  However, for those who can do it, don't be intimidated by this time of year.  After all, it's December, a month bearing gifts!
