New Year, New You?
The holidays are over. It's 2021. I think we all thought that everything we've been through this past year was going to dissapear when the ball droppped at midnight.
Well, about that...
2020 was tough on everyone. People experienced hardships, the loss of family, financial struggle. But, people also experienced positive notes in 2020. For example, my best friend had his first child, another one got married, and another engaged. While I did not find love (sorry mom no grandkids yet) I got a new job, made strides in my music career, and made a ton of new friends.
No I'm not bragging. I'm just saying that in a year that got so dark, and for a while we never thought we'd see any light at the end of the tunnel, there were probably some events that lit up all around you. You may have just overlooked them.
What's that saying? "New year, new you." Every 365 days it's the same thing. The most overused sentence every calendar year. The same "Oh I'm going to start going to the gym, stop drinking soda. Maybe I should cut back on the beer too." Some people do it, and stick with it. Some don't, that's okay too.
My problem with this trend of resolutions each year is everyone does what we've been doing all year: focused on the bad stuff. Whether it be COVID, the election, your weight, what you eat, the list goes on and on.
Take a step back.
What wouldn't you change? People talk about "I'm leaving the old me behind in 2020." I've been guilty of that a time or two as well. But why do it?
My whole point is that we define people as ones who see the glass half full or half empty. The optimist and the pessimist.
Why are we never just happy enough to have water in the glass?
That date you went on last week, that tv show you love so much, a friend getting married, the gift of a new life into this world.
It's all, water.
It doens't matter how much is in your proverbial glass, YOU HAVE SOME.
2021 is a new year. We've been in it for almost a week now. Bring some of the old you along on this journey of a new year. It may be hard, it could get dark. But keep looking for the light around you, and hold onto your water.
